vesa-matti builds frequency converters during the day and at night he is living life as a dj, producer and sound enthusiast. both the man and his music originate from the sunny city of vaasa on the west coast of finland. recorded in his previous studio, located in an old brick building on miller street, the late night sessions in a building that mostly hosted rock bands resulted in several hours of recorded drum patterns, loops and synth lines creating a fascinating fusion of nordic-flavoured dub aesthetics and twisted sound manipulations.

favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian�s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills� albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of �can�t say goodbye� by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

mei zhiyong had been instrumental in arranging dp�s tour of china. when mei zhiyong and dave phillips first met in beijing in july 2014, mei spoke not a word of english and dp not a word of chinese. and they we were to embark on an 18 city tour together. verbal communication between mei and dp was obviously difficult to say the least. it would often result in comical misunderstandings, total puzzlement or bewilderment, but it would also be a source of constant amusement with wonderful moments of instinctive trust. but then there is sound, the ultimate language� to return the favor, dp arranged a tour for mei and himself in october 2015 through 20 european cities. which is where the source material was recorded. dp then selected, dissected and transformed those recordings to work out something different, not just a collaboration, not just an amalgam of two styles, but something new for both. the compositions on this lp are the result.

soul jazz records� new boombox 2 is a new selection of early rap music from the period 1979-83, with barely a household name in sight. featured here are some the earliest hip-hop records that came out of new york city following the enormous commercial success of the first ever rap record, �rapper�s delight� by the sugarhill gang, in september 1979. artists and producers alike tried to jump aboard the new commercial possibilities of hip-hop. by the end of the year there were 30 hip-hop singles, all released by independent new york labels. the following year there were over 100 more, and so on.

womans heiß ersehntes debütablum happy freedom ist nun über asmara records erhältlich. einfache antworten sind gefragt. woman stellen lieber fragen. zum beispiel diese hier: where you gonna go when the planet erupts? heißt es im ersten vers von dust, dem ersten song auf happy freedom, dem ersten album des kölner trios. seit fünf jahren wird bereits über diese band gemunkelt, wer sie von anfang an kennt, tauscht seine frühen eindrücke wie geheimwissen aus. die geschichte begann 2012 in der kellerbar im belgischen viertel von köln. drei befreundete musiker aus der stadt hatten noch nicht einmal einen namen, aber das erste set stand. es war laut und chaotisch, halb einstürzende neubauten, halb suicide. wer damals dabei war, rieb sich die augen: okay, das ding steckte konzeptionell noch in den kinderschuhen, aber die intensität und experimentierfreude der musik nahm alle ein.

ill camille ist seit einigen jahren eine kapazität in der hip hop-szene von l.a.. kendrick lamar featurete die rapperin auf -sing about me- von seinem debütalbum -good kid, m.a.a.d. city-. zudem arbeitete sie oft mit kendrick lamars produzent terrace martin für verschiedene projekte zusammen. gleichzeitig arbeitete sie an ihrer eigenen musik mit künstlern wie mndsgn, iman omari, dj battlecat, like (pac div), georgia anne muldrow oder sir, die nun alle auf ihrem -heirloom- album gefeatured sind. der sound reicht von smoothen, g-funk beeinflussten west coast-beats, bis hin zu eher organischen live-produktionen.

after studying dance, kirikoo des aka nsdos, felt the need to create his own sound in order to explore movement. this is how he started imagining a whole new sonic order, an alternative approach to music � through abstraction. nsdos can�t restrain himself to existing technological tools and softwares, he prefers creating his own mediums: futurist instruments made of old audio converters (carte son), gameboy emulators, pieces of metal dismantled and weld together giving form to surreal machines. surrounded by his hybrid tools, nsdos unravels the rectilinear anatomy of techno music. textures are exploded, sounds mutilated, and brought back to their essence. this sonic odyssey, nsdos initiated in his native town paris before exploring it deeper in berlin � a city that he sees as a giant laboratory in which he experimented the field of possibilities. a huge admirer of the dada and lettrism movements, nsdos can be considered as the offspring of a diy culture. he ranks among his icons artists such as christian marley, stelarc or donna haraway who gave him a desire to push the limits of the body, objects and sound. his alternative vision and the way he reinterprets technological tools have made him one of the most important techno hackers of his generation. nsdos doesn�t create, he regenerates and transmutes music. his creative path is empirical, sometimes organic as he puts sensors on insects, his public in trance, trees � everything that comes on his way � and transcribes their movement into sounds. after three maxis, lazer connect in 2013, female guest list in 2015 both signed on parisian music label clekcleckboom recordings and money exchange published in 2016 on his label standalone complex, his new album, intuition, intervenes as the completion of his organic vison of music. inspired by meteorological stations and according to a principle of « bio feedback », nsdos surveyed the movements of nature, turned into data before translating them into sounds, textures and rhythms. the album comes with a series of 5 videos detailing the creative process of the artist � from recording in the middle of nature to the studio. in intuition, nsdos splinters the boundaries between genres and places techno as a matrix. his album reveals his sense of discipline, one that he draws from his passion from japanese dance buto, as well as his interest for biology, his experimental aura through industrial, sometimes nearly metal sounds. all these elements form the essence of whole new movement, unclassifiable, of which he constantly pushes the frontiers.
